The Life of Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was born to a poor family in Hardin County, Kentucky in the year 1809. He lived in a log-cabin during his childhood. He came to know Jesus at a very young age through the influence of his mother, Nancy Lincoln who impressed upon him the Ten Commandments. His mother passed away when he was at the age of 9. He never forgot her, and often referred to her as his "angel mother". In the year 1834, Mr. Lincoln was elected to the State Legistlasture. A year later, the death of his fiancee, Anee Rutledge, had been almost too much for him to bear. In his despair, he said, "There is nothing to live for now." 7 years later, he remarried Mary Todd. In 1860, Mr. Lincoln became the President of United States of America. He wanted to prevent many people from dying just as his family members did. In the year 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated in Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C. Even before he was buried, Mr. Lincoln's name would be linked with President George Washington. Washington was known as the founding father of the nation, but President Abraham Lincoln was known as the saviour of the nation! Until now, many people remembers President Lincoln as he saved the United States of America from disintegrating during the American Civil War.

I have learnt that President Abraham Lincoln experienced a lot of difficulties and hurdles early in his life, but because he persevered, he was able to achieve greatness in his life inspite of it all. We are all called to greatness if we persevere and fulfill God's calling upon our life; to do His will in our short sojourn on earth. He will see us through if we will only trust and obey.
