Audrey Wetherell Johnson was born in Leicester, England in 1907. Although she was devoutly Christian, as a young woman Miss Johnson had not come to faith before going to France to continue her education. After her conversion, she finally took Jesus words in the Bible as truth as she considered herself an agnostic for a few years. In 1936, Audrey was called by her church Missionary Community to sail for China under China Inland Missions (CIM). She was assigned to Yu-Kiang in the Kiangsi Province a few months later. 3 years later in 1939, she was assigned again to Lin Ming Kwan in the Hopeh Province. In 1942, Miss Johnson was interned by the Japanese in a camp called Longhua, in huts that had fomerly been horse stables during World War 2. In 1950, because of preaching the gospel, the Communists forced her to leave China after house arrest for 2 years. 8 years later in Oakland, California, her Bible Study Fellowship was incorporated; and grows to almost 300 classes with 100,000 members. 3 decades later, Miss Johnson passed away due to old age. Audrey Johnson's confidence was in a great God and that He could use them to minister dynamically in the lives of others.
